主板故障往往表現為係統啟動失敗、屏幕無顯示、有時能啟動有時又啟動不了等難以直觀判斷的故障現象。在對主板的故障進行檢查維修時，一般採用“一看、二聽、三聞、四摸”的維修原則。就是觀察故障現象、聽報警聲、聞是否有異味、用手摸某些部件是否發燙等。下面列舉幾種常見主板的維修方法，每種方法都有自己的優勢和局限性，一般要幾種方法相結合使用。 [1]
清潔法
這種方法一般用來解決因主板上灰塵太多，灰塵帶靜電造成主板無法正常工作的故障，可用毛刷清除主板上的灰塵。另外，主板上一般接有很多的外接板卡，這些板卡的金手指部分可能被氧化，造成與主板接觸不良，這種問題可用橡皮擦擦去表面的氧化層
