7075由美鋁公司在1943年推出，在航空航天工業，7075至今一直是7xxx係列合金的主力力量。這是第yi次成功的在AL-Zn-Mg-Cu係高強度合金中使用加入了鉻合金，使之形成了良好的抗應力腐蝕開裂的板材產品，其效益影響深刻。雖然其他7xxx合金至今也已開發與改進了特定的屬性，7075仍然是一個很好的平衡航空航天應用所需的性能基線。
